I am changing my husband’s name to Dick!@#$. He forgot my birthday; well the light did dawn on him at about 4:30PM. I did not expect a gift (money is tight right now), but I did not expect to be forgotten.

It gets better. Not only did he forget so did everyone else. Friend, family, everyone. Not even one phone call.

Am I that forgettable? I really didn’t think so, but I guess I need to reexamine the possibility.

I cannot emphasize enough how important know basic self defense techniques are for women. On her blog Tractor Tracks, FarmGirl has an excellent post on the subject.

Well two thirds of the horde anyway. The two oldest have been away at Boy Scout camp for a week. A rainy muddy Boy Scout camp. They are due back tonight and I am dreading what is coming home with them; muddy clothes, ticks and no telling what else.

On the bright side it has been very quiet at home and I am all caught up on laundry, at least until the campers get home.

What’s the Solution?

I went to Super Wally World today. I usually don’t buy meat there but I decided to get some chicken breasts. They had a few brands. Several proclaiming they were “All Natural!”. So I read more carefully and see, “Injected with up to 15% chicken broth.” Well I don’t know the ingredients in their chicken broth and I sure as hell ain’t spending $$$ per pound for it.

Welcome to my Blog. This is an introductory post for anyone interested.

I am a forty something SAHM with 3 boys currently 12, 11 & 8 living in southern Louisiana.

I was driven to start this blog by a health crisis. This past April my blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes for the third time. I was not taking prescriptions that might cause this and I am not a big drinker. In fact I had abstained from any alcohol for about 5 weeks before the most recent test.

This all led to me being referred to a gastroentrologist. He made a preliminary diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome (AKA Syndrome X) and Nash (Non- Alcoholic Steatorrhoeic Hepatosis). The doctor recommend I lose weight (Ha!) and come back in twelve weeks and repeat the blood work. I my liver enzymes are still elevated he will schedule a liver biopsy (Yuck!).

I am starting to eat according to a whole food / low glycemic index plan. I am also experimenting by incorporating the principles in Seth Roberts book the The Shangri-La Diet . A good free tool is SparkPeople.com where you can track your calories and exercise, participate in forums and much more. Since April 27th I have gone from 274 pounds to 268.
